Shawn Sydlowski has announced that he is returning to the Fort Wayne Komets after spending last season with the Orlando Solar Bears. In 46 games last season with the Solar Bears, Sydlowski had 14 goals and 15 assists for 19 points. The 33-year-old winger has spent nine of his first ten seasons with the Fort Wayne Komets, where he has put up 179 goals, and 308 assists for 487 points in 476 regular season games with the Komets, he’s added 27 goals and 51 assists for 78 points in 83 Kelly Cup Playoff games including winning the Kelly Cup with the Komets back in 2021. His resume doesn’t end there, as he was named the ECHL MVP in 2018, where he put up 31 goals and 48 assists for 79 points in 64 games. Sydlowski is tenth in Komet history with 565 points (208g,359a), including regular season and Kelly Cup Playoff numbers.
Over the course of the past few years, between injuries and healthy scratches, Sydlowski hasn’t been an everyday player, and with the Komets having 24 players signed to ECHL contracts next year, I wouldn’t expect that to change; regardless, it will be a massive boost to the Komets when Sydlowski is able to find himself in the lineup. The Michigan Native is one of those players who doesn’t need to put up big numbers to make his presence felt, and there’s no question that the fans in Fort Wayne will be ecstatic to have him back in Orange next season.
