The South Carolina Stingrays have made a move by acquiring forward Jamie Engelbert from the Bloomington Bison. This trade completes the earlier transaction that sent Jonny Evans and Jackson Leppard to Bloomington.
Engelbert, a 24-year-old forward, is on his inaugural season in professional hockey. Originating from Cobourg, Ontario, he stands tall at 6’4″ and weighs 205 pounds, providing a notable physical presence on the ice. Prior to turning professional, he played at Providence College, where he achieved a total of 45 points (24 goals and 21 assists) across 145 NCAA games. In his final season at Providence, he scored seven goals and added four assists in 28 games.
Engelbert also played junior hockey with the Cobourg Cougars in the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) before making his move to the NCAA. Throughout his tenure with the Cougars, he achieved an impressive record of 34 goals and 35 assists over 97 career games. In the 2018-19 season, he notched 20 goals and 24 assists in 47 games, earning the title of the team’s Top Defensive Player. Additionally, Engelbert proudly represented Canada East at the 2018 World Junior A Challenge, where he recorded two goals and two assists.
Engelbert is recognized for his robust two-way gameplay, excelling in both offensive and defensive contributions. In his first two games with the Bison, Engelbert did well, having recorded an assist in Saturday’s matchup against the Toledo Walleye. Considering his height and strength, he could play a key role in winning battles along the boards and generating scoring chances which would be incredibly valuable to the South Carolina Stingrays.
This weekend, the Stingrays are preparing to take on the Greenville Swamp Rabbits. The opening match will take place in Greenville on Friday at 7:05 PM, followed by the second game in North Charleston on Saturday.
