Friday afternoon, while the rest of the world was focused on the NHL trade deadline, the South Carolina Stingrays signed a Forward and placed another on Injured Reserve.
Jacob Hudson, a 23-year-old right-handed Forward from Antigonish, NS, signed the first professional contract of his career with the SC Stingrays. Jacob is a well-versed Center/Right Wing who spent the last three seasons at St. Francis Xavier University, where he played 74 collegiate games with 74 Goals and 51 Assists. Jacob started out in hockey with the NSMBHL league and worked his way through the QMJHL before playing for St. Francis.
Jacob comes in clutch because he has the experience and can be a proficient center and a Right Wing. He went to the University Cup with St Francis Xavier, where they won two out of the three games they participated in. In 2021, Jacob was invited to the Boston Bruins Development Camp and was named Player of the Game numerous times during his time with the X-men at St Francis and, most recently, Second Team All-Stars. Hudson also competed with USPORTS against the Canadian Juniors in 2022. The power and skill he will bring to the Stingrays will complement the team nicely.
The Stingrays also added Kameron Keilly to the Injured reserve dating back to March 4th. It’s not known how long Keilly will be out at this time. However, if this is related to his upper body, it could be longer than expected. Keilly has had a previous injury that required surgery and caused him to miss part of a season.
