The South Carolina Stingrays have announced that assistant coach Scott Davidson will remain behind the bench for the 2024-25 season. Davidson is entering his second year as the team’s assistant coach and will assist Jared Nightingale, who was named the team’s head coach in May after Brenden Kotyk got fired. Kotyk has since gotten a job with the Savannah Ghost Pirates as an assistant coach after being fired by South Carolina. The Trail, British Columbia native oversaw the forwards and the Stingrays PK last season, which finished sixth in the ECHL at 82% and had the second-best home PK at 85.8%. Prior to taking the job with the Stingrays, Davidson spent a season as an assistant coach with the Maine Nordiques 16U AAA team and a season as an assistant coach with the Elite Hockey Academy 18U AAA team.
Prior to getting into coaching, the 29-year-old played four years at Quinnipiac University, where he scored 15 goals and 26 assists for 41 points in 154 games and would help the Bobcats bring home their first-ever ECAC Championship. Davidson would join the Charlotte Checkers after finishing up his final season at Quinnipiac, as the Checkers would go on to win the Calder Cup; Davidson didn’t make an appearance with the Checkers during his time there. He then spent one season in the ECHL with the Stingrays, where he scored one goal and four assists for five points in 33 games during the 2019-20 season, which ended up getting cut short due to COVID-19.
