The South Carolina Stingrays had a very busy day today, with six transactions prior to their two road games this weekend, as they will visit the Savannah Ghost Pirates and Atlanta Gladiators. South Carolina lost two players to injured reserve, as forward Ian Mackey and defenceman Benton Maass were both placed on IR today. That move is retroactive to 3/4.
Despite losing Mitchell Gibson to Hershey, the Rays do get some reinforcements as Tyson Empey and Kevin O’Neil were both sent back down to South Carolina. Empey has played in 50 games with the Rays this season, putting up 16 goals and 19 assists for 35 points in 50 games, and is second on the team on the team in penalty minutes with 107, only trailing Garet Hunt. The Saskatoon native has yet to find the scoreboard in five games with the Hershey Bears. O’Neil is having a very solid season with the Rays, as he’s put up 12 goals and 36 assists for 48 points in 48 games and is just two points shy of his previous single-season high in points. The 26-year-old winger has an assist in four points with Hershey this season.
South Carolina also signed Marko Reifenberger to a contract. The 25-year-old center just finished up his collegiate career at Mercyhurst University, where he put up 18 goals and 25 assists for 43 points in 122 games. Reifenburger will likely take the place of Sean Ross, who was placed on waivers earlier today after spending just over a week with the Rays, playing in two games and failing to find the scoresheet.
