ECHL: South Carolina’s Josh Wilkins Suspended One Game

The ECHL announced that Josh Wilkins has been suspended for one game following the first game of the Kelly Cup Playoffs. On Saturday, Wilkins was involved in a scuffle on the ice with Florida Everblades Defencemen Brandon Hickey during the first period. After the refs were able to gain control of the dog pile, Wilkins was assessed a major penalty and was ejected from the game for slashing, as Brandon Hickey of the Everblades was given a cross-checking minor; however, he would finish off the game. Wilkins will miss game two of the playoffs on Monday, April 24, and was fined an undisclosed amount.

During the regular season, Wilkins had 21 goals and 41 assists, leading the Stingrays in assists and points. The Rays remain hopeful, though, as Chaz Reddekopp returns from his two-game suspension for spearing. Ryan Scarfo and Lawton Courtnall were the two healthy scratches up front. Bear Hughes is also an option for the Stingrays but someone would have to go on reserve for him to be activated. Magera will most likely move back up to the first line with Kevin O’Neil and Max Humitz, as Ryan Scarfo would likely replace him in the middle on the Lukosevicus line. Scarfo had 12 goals and 22 assists for 34 points in 64 games.
