ECHL: South Division Semifinals Game 2 Recap: Jacksonville Icemen vs Florida Everblades | 04/21/2024

The Jacksonville Icemen and the Florida Everblades faced off for game two of their seven-game series after the Icemen took game one of the series, winning 4 – 0 on Thursday, April 18th. The Icemen look to get ahead of their postseason rival.

Jacksonville and Florida both have demonstrated a strong defense in Sunday’s game. Both teams were held to under 10 shots on goal per period. Jacksonville would only have 27 shots on goal, while Florida would have 28. The game showed the defensive power of both teams. The first period would end at a standstill of 0 – 0 with only four penalties called. Logan Lambdin would be called for a two-minute minor for hooking at 2:08. Garret Cockerill was called for a two-minute penalty for high sticking and holding at 13:22 and 17:11. Matt Wedman would is called for a two-minute minor for tripping at 19:23.

The second period would continue as the first. Both teams playing high defense, Will Reilly of Florida would be called for a two-minute minor penalty for tripping. Resulting in an Icemen power play. Derek Lodermeier would get the wrist shot past Cam Johnson and put the Icemen on top with a power play goal at 12:59. The Everblades would be able to respond as Florida Sean Josling gets the backhanded goal past Matt Vernon. Evening out the score to 1-1 heading into the third.

Both teams would be at a standstill ending the third period and would go into overtime. Florida’s Matt Wedman would get the snapshot goal, putting Florida on top 2-1. Both teams would have an outstanding defensive game. The Icemen will now go on the road to Hertz Arena in Estero for the next three games. The Icemen and Everblades face off on Wednesday, April 24th at 7:30 pm. If the series goes into six games, the Icemen will be back at home on April 30th, if needed
