The ECHL Department of Player’s Safety has suspended Norfolk Admirals forward Spencer Kennedy two games for his actions in Saturday’s game vs Trois-Rivieres Lions. Kennedy would deliver a knee-on-knee hit to Trois-Rivieres forward Jonathan Yantsis at the 3:59 mark of the first period. This is his first ECHL suspension. In 21 games this season, he has two goals and an assist for three points, along with 122 PIMS. Those two goals and one assist came in his first two games of the season. Kennedy is eligible to return on Friday, March 7th, vs Florida Everblades. As a team, the Admirals are third in the league, averaging almost sixteen and a half penalty minutes a game. It will be interesting to see who steps up physically with Kennedy out of the lineup.
Kennedy, 24, is in his second season in the league after playing in 24 games last season, where he racked up 82 penalty minutes with the Atlanta Gladiators and Reading Royals. The Lethbridge, Alberta native also spent 41 games in the SPHL with the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs, Peoria Rivermen, and Pensacola Ice Flyers, where he put up five goals and three assists for eight points along with 227 PIMS. He also won an SPHL Championship with the Pensacola Ice Flyers. Prior to going pro, he spent two seasons at Portage College, where he had two goals and four assists for six points along with 170 PIMs in 28 games. He led the league in PIMS (84) during the 2021-22 season.
