ECHL: Swamp Rabbits Acquire Brent Pedersen from Three-Team Trade

Greenville, S.C. — At an unprecedented time, the Greenville Swamp Rabbits announced a significant trade. Today, Aug. 28, the club announced that they had a three-team trade with the Savannah Ghost Pirates and Reading Royals to acquire the rights of Ghost Pirate Brent Pedersen in exhange for Logan Britt and future considerations.

The trade occurred when the Royals traded Devon Paliani to Savannah for Pedersen, only to turn around and trade Pedersen to Greenville for defenseman Britt and future considerations. This is a very significant trade for the Swamp Rabbits and Royals, as Pedersen provides scoring versatility and depth, while Britt offers skill as a young rookie defenseman.

About Pedersen

Pedersen, 29 years old, 6-foot-3 and 214 pounds is a veteran forward in the ECHL. He is originally a 2013 fifth Round, 126th overall, NHL draft pick by the Carolina Hurricanes.

First playing in the “Coast” during the 2018-19 season, Pedersen played in 30 games for the Orlando Solar Bears where he accumulated 32 points from 12 goals and 20 assists. Between that season, the Arthur, Ontario native got his first exposure to the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Manitoba Moose where he played in 29 games, contributing four goals and an assist. His inaugural season in professional hockey came after he concluded his third season for Laurentian University (USports), where he served as an alternate captain and contributed nine goals and 17 assists from 28 games.

For the 2022-23 season, he signed with the Savannah Ghost Pirates to commemorate its inaugural season in the ECHL. During that season, Pedersen contributed 47 points from 27 goals and 20 assists in 57 games played. He also got a callup to play in two games for the Colorado Eagles, earning no points. For last season, Pedersen continued his campaign in the ECHL and with the Ghost Pirates, participating in 65 games. He accumulated 22 goals and 21 assists for 43 points for the Ghost Pirates. Furthermore, during that season, he also got a one game callup to the Henderson Silver Knights, the AHL affiliate of the Ghost Pirates, where he appeared in a single game with no points recorded.

Pedersen offers veteran depth as a versatile forward for goal scoring and assist making. He has participated in 68 games in the AHL (seven goals, seven assists), and 163 games in the ECHL (62 goals, 66 assists for 128 points).

About Britt

Logan Britt, 6-foot-2 and 190 pounds from Crystal Lake, Illinois made his appearance in the ECHL during last season. The 25-year-old recently re-signed with the Swamp Rabbits earlier in July, ready to reappear in an orange sweater for his second season in the ECHL. He made his professional debut during the last season when he finished his fifth season in the NCAA for the University of North Dakota. His first game was on April 5 against Orlando. He finished the regular season campaign by playing three more games, as he earned a single assist in his third game against Atlanta. Furthermore, he also participated in five games during the Kelly Cup Playoffs for the Rabbits against the Solar Bears, where he accumulated only an assist.

Britt played in 40 games for UND last season, accumulating seven goals and seven assists. For the two previous seasons, between 2021-23, he played for Sacred Heart University, participating in 74 games. In those 74 games, Britt recorded five goals and 28 assists. Furthermore, in his inaugural and second season in the NCAA, Britt participated in those two seasons for Quinnipiac University. He landed seven points from three goals and four assists after appearing in 57 games for the Bobcats.

How the Teams’ Benefit from the Trade

The Royals benefit from Britt, as he’s an agile and great skater. He is a young, rookie defenseman with a lot of potential due to his substantial puck handling and blueline management skills. As for the Swamp Rabbits, the team benefits with Pederson because of his scoring depth, veteran experience, and leadership.
