Greenville, SC—With so many player signings coming out from different teams in the ECHL, the Swamp Rabbits are no exception. Previously they had been resigning players from the 22-23 season roster, such as Ben Freeman, Bobby Russell, and Tanner Eberle. But today’s news of a new player signing has been made: Jake Smith has signed a contract with Greenville. Smith is a known forward who played 45 games for the Everblades and had 18 goals and 14 assists over the 2022-23 season. But, last season, he would spend a few games out of Florida, as he played five games for the Iowa Heartlanders, putting up just two goals and two assists; and additionally, he played nine games in Norfolk, putting up just two goals and three assists. The Pickering, Ontario native, has seen a good career in the ECHL, as he’s played just 116 games with a total of 47 goals and 44 assists. Smith’s 2021-22 rookie season would start in Iowa, as he played a solid 52 games and mustered up 25 goals and 25 assists before getting traded to Kansas City to play five games and failing to find the scoresheet. Smith is a smaller built player, just standing at a height of 5’10 and weighing 170 pounds; however, his ECHL career records are impressive, and he may be a viable offensive forward for the upcoming 23-24 season in Greenville.
