The Tahoe Knight Monsters have named Alex Loh their head coach for their inaugural season; Loh was given the interim tag with the Savannah Ghost Pirates last season after Rick Bennett was fired. The Vermont native began his professional coaching career during the 2012-13 season as he would spend three years as the team’s video coach before finding his footing in the ECHL. Loh joined the Adirondack Thunder organization during the 2015-16 season as an assistant coach and ultimately became the team’s Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations in 2018. He would coach Adirondack for three seasons, leading them to the Kelly Cup Playoffs in his first season, but the Thunder would lose to the Manchester Monarchs in five games in the opening round. Loh and the Thunder would part ways after the 2021-22 season, but it wouldn’t take Loh long to find a landing spot as he would join the Savannah Ghost Pirates as an assistant coach for the 2022-23 season.
For the Knight Monsters, they get an experienced coach who’s been around the league for awhile as well as someone who as a bit of Kelly Cup Playoff experience, Loh also knows what to expect from an expansion franchise in their first few years due to his experience with the Ghost Pirates. It has not yet been announced who Loh’s assistants will be. The signing of Loh would also add another clue that Tahoe would be partnering with the Vegas Golden Knights, as he is coming over from the Golden Knight’s ECHL affiliate from this past season.
