The Tahoe Knight Monsters added some NHL experience to their roster on Wednesday as they announced the signing of center Luke Adam. The St. Johns, Newfoundland native has spent the past eight years overseas, including seven years in Germany playing in the DEL, where he put up 89 goals and 144 assists for 233 points in 317 games, including winning a DEL Championship in 2019 with Adler Mannheim. Adam split his playing time last year as he played in seven games in Czechia, where he put up two assists, before playing in 21 games in Slovakia, where he put up five goals and eight assists for 13 points. This is a huge signing for Tahoe as they add someone who has experience at all three levels and someone who has spent time overseas. I would expect Adam to be a middle-six center for Tahoe to start the year and be a player who will show leadership qualities in the locker room.
Prior to heading overseas, the second-round draft pick of the Buffalo Sabres in 2018 spent six seasons playing at both the AHL and NHL levels. Adams spent the majority of his time in the AHL, as he would put up 105 goals and 127 assists for 232 points in 342 games while spending time with the Portland Pirates, Rochester Americans, Springfield Falcons, and Hartford Wolf Pack. He won the AHL Rookie of the Year in 2011, where he scored 29 goals and 33 assists for 62 points in 57 games. He was also named to the AHL All-Star Team in 2011 and 2014. The 34-year-old has also played in 90 games in the NHL, putting up 15 goals and 11 assists for 26 points while playing for the Buffalo Sabres and Columbus Blue Jackets.
