The Tahoe Knight Monsters are wasting no time making signings as they’ve announced their second signing in as many days as they’ve signed defenseman Brennan Kapcheck for the 2024-25 season. Kapcheck will be entering his fourth ECHL season after spending the past three seasons with the now-defunct Newfoundland Growlers. In 115 games with the Growlers, the Illinois native would put up seven goals and 52 assists for 59 points. He’s added one goal and 13 assists for 14 points in 31 career Kelly Cup Playoff Games. Kapcheck began the 2023-24 season in Slovakia, where he had one assist in 10 games, before returning to Newfoundland, where he would put up 13 assists in 34 games. The 27-year-old defenseman would have a solid collegiate career before going pro as he put up 14 goals and 80 assists for 94 points in 128 games at American International College; he would also be named a Walter Brown Finalist Twice, won Rookie of the Year, was named best defenseman in his final year along with many other accolades.
There’s no doubt that when the Growlers folded last season, there was going to be a lot of talent up for grabs, and for Tahoe to grab a player like Kapcheck is going to be huge. Kapcheck will play a solid two-way game and has shown he has no problem racking up the points, as he put up 30 points in 58 games during the 2022-23 season in Newfoundland. I would expect Kapecheck to easily be a top-four defenseman for the Knight Monsters during the 2024-25 season.
