Maine Mariners head coach Terrence Wallin is leaving the organization to take an assistant coaching job in the AHL with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Wallin, 33, has spent the last six years with the Mariners organization, including the last four on the coaching staff, and has served as the head coach for the last three seasons. The Mariners have made the Kelly Cup Playoffs in each of the last three seasons before falling short this season. During the 2022-23 season, the Mariners would win a franchise record 42 games before falling to the Reading Royals in six games. The following season, they took the Eastern Conference Champion Adirondack Thunder to seven games. Maine will begin the search for their fourth head coach in team history immediately.
As a player with the Mariners, he put up 34 goals and 39 assists for 73 points in 97 games. Terrence Wallin also played three years with the Thunder and a year with the Rapid City Rush. He finished his playing career with 71 goals and 94 assists for 165 points in 230 ECHL games. He would add six goals and five assists for 11 points in 26 career Kelly Cup Playoff games. Wallin played in 27 games at the AHL during his career, where he had one assist while playing with the Binghampton Devils and Hartford Wolf Pack.
“It’s a bittersweet feeling,” said Wallin. “I’ve obviously spent a long time in Maine as a player and coach and this organization means the world to me. This felt like a really exciting step and opportunity for me to continue my coaching career at the next level.”

He will join John Snowden in Lehigh, who spent parts of six years coaching in the ECHL before being promoted to the Toronto Marlies in 2020, where he served as an assistant coach for two years before heading to Lehigh Valley as an assistant coach, starting in the 2023-24 season. The Phantoms have made the Calder Cup Playoffs in each of the last three seasons.
