The Atlanta Gladiators have recently announced the signing of forward Spencer Kennedy to an ECHL contract. At 6-foot-6 and 23 years of age, Kennedy brings his physical skills to Atlanta after playing briefly for the Reading Royals, Roanoke Rail-Yard Dawgs, and Peoria Rivermen this season.
Before joining the Royals for his second professional season, Kennedy played his first season in the Southern Professional Hockey League for the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs. During his time with Roanoke, the Lethbridge, Alberta native recorded three points (3g) and 131 penalty minutes in 19 regular season games. Kennedy led the Rail Yard Dawgs and finished seventh in the SPHL in total penalty minutes, ranking second among rookies. Kennedy, a right-shooting forward, spent two seasons in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference for the Portage College Voyageurs, where he recorded 10 points (4g, 6a) and 170 penalty minutes in 28 career games. Before that, Kennedy played junior hockey for the Kimberley Dynamiters in the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League, the La Ronge Ice Wolves in the Saskatchewan Hockey League, and the Blind River Beavers in the Northern Ontario Hockey League. Across his junior hockey career, Kennedy accumulated 87 points (35g, 52a) and 52 penalty minutes in 89 games.
This upcoming weekend, the Gladiators will be hosting two back-to-back home games at the Gas South Arena. The first game is scheduled for Friday at 7:30 PM, where they will compete against the Jacksonville Icemen. The second game is set for Saturday at 7 PM, with the Gladiators facing off against the South Carolina Stingrays for their Star Wars Theme Night.
