The Toledo Walleye have announced that they have re-signed forward Mitchell Lewandowski to a contract for the upcoming 2024-25 season. Lewandowski was a key piece down the stretch and in the playoffs. He will return to a team proving they are re-loading for the next season.
Lewandowski, a Clarkston, Michigan native, spent his college career with Michigan State University and provided some offensive production during his five years there. In 156 games, he scored 56 goals and 64 assists for 120 points, along with 144 penalty minutes.
He then turned pro during the 2021-22 season, playing 14 games with the Tucson Roadrunners of the American Hockey League (AHL), scoring two goals and one assist for three points.
He made his Walleye debut in the 2023-24 season, scoring 14 goals and 40 assists for 54 points in 57 games. His solid play led to numerous scoring opportunities throughout the season, and he became a legitimate scoring threat, giving Walleye another weapon on offense. This led to a successful playoff for Lewandowski, as he would produce three goals and seven assists for 10 points in nine games. He would appear in six games with the Cleveland Monsters of the AHL, scoring one goal and two assists for three points.
The 5-foot-9 and 183-pound left-winger returns to Toledo as one of the premier point producers on the team. While he did not play the entire season, he was at a point-per-game average and was on fire in the playoffs when it counts the most. Lewandowski is a prominent player who could make a run for leading the team in scoring if the opportunity presents itself. He will be surrounded by offensive talent as the Walleye bring back some firepower for the upcoming season, so he should be successful offensively.
