The Orlando Solar Bears have re-signed defenseman Tony Follmer for the 2025–26 season. The 6’2” left-shot blueliner made his professional debut with the team last spring after wrapping up his NCAA career with Bemidji State.
From College Captain to ECHL Pro
Follmer, 24, hails from O’Fallon, Missouri, and played four collegiate seasons at Bemidji State University. He logged 127 games with the Beavers, collecting 12 points and 56 penalty minutes across his NCAA career. His most productive season came in 2024–25, where he notched two goals and five assists in 38 games.
Before college, Follmer developed in the USHL with the Lincoln Stars and Sioux Falls Stampede, captaining Lincoln in his final junior season. Known for his physical play and calm decision-making, Follmer brings a steady presence to the back end.
After his college season ended, Follmer appeared in four games for Orlando, gaining his first taste of professional action. While he didn’t record a point, the Solar Bears saw enough in his play to bring him back as a depth piece with potential to grow.
Looking Ahead
With a summer of training and familiarity with Orlando’s systems, Follmer will look to make a bigger impact in his first full season. His blend of size, defensive structure, and leadership from his USHL and NCAA days make him an intriguing name to watch as the Solar Bears finalize their blue line. As training camp approaches, Follmer will aim to carve out a larger role in his first full professional season. His return gives Orlando another young, mobile option as they look to improve on last year’s playoff run.
