On December 30th, 2024, the Savannah Ghost Pirates completed a three-team trade with the Idaho Steelheads and Maine Mariners.

The trade reads as follows:

Savannah trades Defenseman Pito Walton to the Idaho Steelheads for forward Lynden McCallum. Savannah flips McCallum for Maine Mariners forward Pat Guay. Maine Mariners gain the rights to McCallum from Savannah, and Savannah gives the Mariners future considerations.

This is not Head Coach Jared Staal’s first time completing a three-team trade. In August 2024, Coach Staal traded Brent Pedersen to the Reading Royals for Devon Paliani. The Royals, in turn, flipped Pedersen to the Greenville Swamp Rabbits, and the Swamp Rabbits then sent defenseman Logan Britt to Reading.

Guay has dressed in 25 games thus far this season for the Mariners. He has seven goals with seven assists tallied. During his previous time with Savannah, he dressed in 74 games. He tallied 27 goals with 54 assists. Guay was drafted in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. The Vegas Golden Knights chose him in the fifth round, 145th overall. Guay comes with AHL experience, having played 33 AHL games with the Henderson Silver Knights and gathered six points.

“I’m super excited to be joining the team again. Savannah has been nothing but awesome for me in the first two years of my pro career, so I am grateful and excited to go back there. The fans make it a very special place to play.”

On the young Ghost Pirates record, Guay holds the record for most assists in a season at 36. He is tied with Captain Logan Drevitch for most points in a single season.

Walton, who is in his sophomore season, heads off to the Idaho Steelheads. Walton has played for the Florida Everblades in one game last season with no points. Walton was then traded to the Ghost Pirates and appeared in four games with one assist. Walton was re-signed in the 2024 off-season to Savannah. During his time in Savannah this season, he played in 14 games and notched one goal with three assists.

“[Pat] has been a target for us for many reasons. Talking to people around the organization that have been here regarding his performance on the ice and the way he carries himself off of it, he was somebody who we’ve had our eyes on for a while. This move was about adding depth up front, A lot of our depth is currently up in Charlotte, which is a part of this level, so we needed to adjust to try and create more for ourselves up front. [Guay] is going to help us right away.”
