The Florida Everblades had a change in goaltenders before their game against the South Carolina Stingrays on Saturday.
On Saturday, the Florida Panthers called Evan Cormier, 26, to backup goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky in their game against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Goaltender Anthony Stolarz is working through an injury and is expected to miss the game against the Lightning but return before their next game on March 21. Cormier was drafted in the fourth round of the 2016 NHL Draft by the New Jersey Devils. He had dressed for the Devils in 2019 but didn’t get into a game. He has played in the AHL and ECHL since he turned pro in 2018, and this is his second call-up to an NHL club. Cormier has appeared in 19 games for the Everblades, posting an 8-6-3 record and a 0.906 save percentage.
With goaltender David Tendeck injured, the Florida Everblades added 27-year-old Nick Vilardo as an emergency backup goalie (EBUG). Vilardo’s professional career has been in Europe. He signed with the Bodens HF in 2017, a team in HockeyEttan, Sweden’s third-tier professional hockey league. He has since played in Poland and Kazakhstan before becoming the South Carolina Stingrays’ EBUG this season.
The Everblades won their game against the Stingrays in North Charleston tonight 6-3. Their next game is against the Orlando Solar Bears on Monday. The game starts at 7:00 p.m. at the Kia Center.
