The Greenville Swamp Rabbits have re-signed defenseman Tristan De Jong for the 2025–26 ECHL season. After joining the team late last year following the conclusion of his collegiate career, De Jong is now set to begin his first full professional season in Greenville.

Late-Season Addition Gains Experience

De Jong made his pro debut with the Swamp Rabbits during the 2024–25 season, appearing in 18 regular-season games. He recorded two assists and 22 penalty minutes, showing promise as a responsible, physical presence on the back end. While adjusting to the pro level, De Jong demonstrated solid defensive instincts and effective puck movement.

Focused and Ready to Contribute

De Jong expressed his excitement about continuing his journey in Greenville:

“Last year was a real test in adapting from the college game to the professional level, but that transition was made so much easier based on how well treated the players are. It provided me with an environment to focus and be confident in playing my game. Talking with Coach Costello, I’m excited to work alongside his acumen and enthusiasm for the game as he pieces together our team. Heading into this season, I want to truly establish myself as a professional with a well-rounded game, be a two-way player, but ultimately use my physical style of play to help us win games. It’s going to be a process, but I’m looking forward to learning and being a big piece of the championship culture we’re trying to establish here. See you in October, Greenville!”

Collegiate Career at Guelph

Before turning pro, De Jong spent five seasons at the University of Guelph, where he developed into a reliable two-way defenseman. In his final year (2024–25), he tallied 17 points (3G, 14A) in 28 games, ranking among the Gryphons’ top defenders in scoring.

Across 117 USports games, De Jong totaled 49 points (6G, 43A), bringing steady production and leadership to the blue line. His progression in Guelph laid a strong foundation for his transition to the ECHL.

What De Jong Brings to Greenville

At 6’1” and 190 pounds, De Jong adds size, skating ability, and a composed presence to Greenville’s defensive core. With his first taste of the pro game behind him, he enters 2025–26 ready to compete for a full-time role and contribute to the Swamp Rabbits’ blue line depth.

Looking Ahead: Opening Night in Greenville

De Jong and the Swamp Rabbits will open the 2025–26 season at home on Friday, October 17, hosting the Utah Grizzlies at Bon Secours Wellness Arena.
