The Trois-Rivieres Lions have re-signed a familiar veteran presence on the blueline as they announced that they are bringing back Brycen Martin for the 2024-25 season. The former third-round pick of the Buffalo Sabres in 2014 has spent seven seasons in the ECHL, putting up 25 goals and 98 assists for 123 points in 374 ECHL while spending time with the Elmira Jackals, Cincinnati Cyclones, Maine Mariners, Fort Wayne Komets, Norfolk Admirals, Indy Fuel, and now the Lions. He has added two assists in 10 Kelly Cup Playoff games, both during the 2024 Kelly Cup Playoffs. The 28-year-old blueliner also saw 21 games of AHL action earlier in his career with the Rochester Americans but would fail to find the scoresheet.
Martin will be entering his second season with the Lions after putting up four goals and 14 assists for 18 points in 69 games for the Lions while adding two assists during the 2024 Kelly Cup Playoffs. This is a solid move for the Lions, as they have already locked up one of their younger blueliner in Kirby Proctor in late June. There’s no question that Martin is going to once again be a big part of the Lions blueline next season, especially a blueline that could see a lot of youth after the Lions would acquire three young defencemen during the second half of the 2023-24 season. The signing of Martin now gives the Lions four signings so far since teams were allowed to begin signing players for next season.
