The Trois-Rivieres Lions have acquired forward Andrew Coxhead from the Orlando Solar Bears in exchange for future considerations. This was the only move Trois-Rivieres would make on deadline day and the second trade they’ve made all season.
Coxhead, 24, joins his third team in his rookie year after beginning the season with the Kansas City Mavericks before being traded to the Orlando Solar Bears on December 5th. In 53 games this season, the Bedford, Nova Scotia native has put up three goals and five assists for eight points. However, all three of his goals have come with the Solar Bears. This is a solid move for the Lions, as they could use another big bottom six-piece to help fill out their lineup.
Prior to going pro, Coxhead spent five seasons in the QMJHL with the Quebec Remparts, Rimouski Oceanic, and Gatineau Olympiques, where he had 60 goals and 82 assists for 142 points in 276 QMJHL games. He then spent three seasons in USports at Saint Mary’s University, putting up 25 goals and 33 assists for 58 points in 69 games, including being named the captain of the Huskies for his final season with the team. Coxhead would win a Universiade Gold Medal with Canada in 2023, where he had two goals and four assists in six games during the tournament. He would also be named to the USports Second All-Star Team during the 2022-23 season, where he put up 14 goals and 10 assists for 24 points in 26 games.
