ECHL: Trois-Rivières Lions Add Rookie Defensemen

The Trois-Rivières Lions have announced that they’ve signed defenseman Jacob Dion for the 2025-26 season. Dion had four goals and 18 assists for 22 points in 26 games last season with the University of Moncton. He would add one goal and eight assists for nine points in six USports Playoff games. Dion is the fourth defenseman signed by the Lions for the 2025-26 season. He joins Karl Boudrias, Jacob Paquette, and Emmett Serensits. The 5’9 defenseman will provide some much-needed firepower to the Lions blueline.

Jacob Dion began his junior career in the QMJHL, where he played parts of four seasons with the Drummondville Voltigeurs. In 170 games with the Voltigeurs, he put up 37 goals and 97 assists for 134 points. He would add a goal and an assist in seven QMJHL playoff games. During his first full season in Drummondville, he recorded 17 goals and 34 assists for 51 points in 63 games, earning him a spot on the QMJHL All-Rookie Team. He would also be nominated for the QMJHL Defensive Rookie of the Year in his first year in Drummondville. The Sherbrooke, Quebec native led the Voltigeurs in points during the 2021-22 season. He would lead all defenseman in points in all three seasons with Drummondville.

After finishing up his time in the Q, Dion would play three seasons in USports with the University of Moncton. In 87 games with the Blue Eagles, Dion put up 14 goals and 59 assists for 73 points. He was named to the AUS All-Rookie team in 2020 after putting up 17 goals and 34 assists for 51 points in 63 games. Dion led all Moncton defenseman in points in each of his three seasons with the team.
