The Trois-Rivières Lions have announced that they have signed Xavier Cormier to a contract for the 2024-25 season. Xavier is the brother of Tommy Cormier, who signed his first professional contract with the Lions earlier this Summer. This is the first time that these two brothers have professionally played together on the same team.

Xavier comes to the Lions after spending his rookie year with the Fort Wayne Komets and his sophomore season with the Florida Everblades, as he’s played in 113 career ECHL games, putting up 22 goals and 51 assists for 73 points. He also played five games in the AHL with the Charlotte Checkers during the 2022-23 season but never found the scoresheet. Prior to going pro, Cormier spent five seasons in the QMJHL playing for the Quebec Remparts, Shawinigan Cataractes, and Rimouski Oceanic, playing in 203 QMJHL games, putting up 59 goals and 88 assists for 147 points in 203 games and would lead the Oceanic in goals (29) assists (39) and points (68) during the 2021-22 season.

This is a strong signing for the Lions, who add another forward with ECHL experience under their belt. Cormier has shown that he has some offensive abilities after picking up 15 goals in 65 games last year with Fort Wayne. One of the biggest things to watch for is if Ron Choules decides to pair the brothers up together on the same line and see if they have a connection. The signing of Xavier Cormier brings the Lions roster up to 15 players, nine of whom are forwards.
