The Trois-Rivieres Lions have announced that they have signed center William Provost for the 2024-25 season. It was a rough season for the young 22-year-old center in his first full season in the ECHL as he struggled to find a permanent home, making stops with the Fort Wayne Komets, Allen Americans, Maine Mariners, and Wheeling Nailers. He would play in 53 total games during the regular season, putting up ten goals and 16 assists for 26 points. Provost would play three games with the Komets during the 2022-23 regular season, putting up three assists and adding one goal during the 2023 Kelly Cup Playoffs. Prior to going pro, the Quebec native spent five seasons in the QMJHL with the Val-d’Or Foreurs, where he put up 55 goals and 78 assists for 133 points in 235 career games.
For the Lions, the Provost could turn out to be a big piece of their offense, as he scored 34 goals in his final season in the QMJHL. The issue for Provost last season was that he couldn’t stay with any of the teams for a long enough period to find his game and get accustomed to that team’s systems. If Provost can find a way to stick with the Lions, he will prove his worth and could be a player who could easily surprise people and put up 20 goals next season. Provost is the 14th signing for the Lions this off-season and the eighth forward locked into a deal for the 2024-25 season.
