The Trois-Rivieres Lions have announced that Assistant Coach Mathieu Brodeur announced his resignation on Monday due to personal reasons, the search for a new assistant coach will begin immediately. Brodeur has been a part of the Lions organization since they joined the ECHL; he played for the team during their first two seasons, playing in 107 games while putting up seven goals and 17 assists for 24 points; he would two assists in seven games during the Kelly Cup Playoffs. Once his playing days were over after the 2022-23 season, he would join the Lions as their assistant coach for the 2023-24 season, in which the Lions would make the Kelly Cup Playoffs for the second time in three years.
Brodeur would spend 11 years playing in both the ECHL and AHL. In nine seasons in the AHL, he would put up 15 goals and 53 assists for 68 points in 318 games while spending time with the San Antonio Rampage, Portland Pirates, Chicago Wolves, Albany Devils, Syracuse Crunch, Springfield Thunderbirds, and Utica Comets. He would add two goals and three assists for five points in 28 Calder Cup Playoff games. In seven seasons in the ECHL, he would put up 28 goals and 85 assists for 113 points in 340 regular season games as he spent time with the Las Vegas Wranglers, Adirondack Thunder, Fort Wayne Komets, and Trois-Rivieres Lions. He would add five goals and eight assists for 13 points in 48 Kelly Cup Playoff Games and would win a Kelly Cup with the Komets in 2021.
