Forward Nicolas Guay is heading overseas after spending his first two plus years as a pro in North America. Guay would spend the 2021-22 season at the University of New Brunswick where he would put up 14 goals and 11 assists for 25 assists in 18 games before signing an AHL deal with the Abbotsford Canucks where he would play in 16 games but fail to find the scoresheet. The Quebec native has spent the last two seasons in ECHL with the Trois-Rivières Lions, where he would put up 23 goals and 47 assists for 70 points in 108 regular season games. He added two goals and two assists for four points in six Kelly Cup Playoff Games this season.
This isn’t the first time that the 24-year-old winger has spent time overseas as he played in 22 games in Austria during the 2016-17 season before making the jump to the QMJHL. He would spend a little over two seasons with the Drummondville Voltigeurs, where he would put up 79 goals and 86 assists for 165 points in 167 games in Drummondville and spent two years as their captain. His final season in the Q would be spent with the St. John Sea Dogs and Rimouski Oceanic, he would wear the “C” for Sea Dogs. Guay joins Nolan Yarmenko on players from TR who opted to take the overseas route.
