The Tulsa Oilers have announced that they have re-signed 6’5″ defenseman Mike McKee for the 2025-26 season.
Junior and Collegiate Career
Mike McKee spent his junior career in the USHL with the Lincoln Stars, playing in two seasons. In 101 games played, McKee had five goals and 35 assists for 40 points with 529 penalty minutes and a +22, earning USHL most penalized player in the 2011-12 season.
McKee then started his collegiate career playing Division I hockey at Western Michigan University, serving as an alternate captain in his junior season. He played in 101 games with the Broncos, registering six goals and seven assists for 13 points, 194 penalty minutes, and a -15.
Professional Career
After finishing his collegiate career, McKee started his professional career, signing in the ECHL with the Toledo Walleye to finish his 2016-17 season. He then signed with the Tulsa Oilers in the 2017-18 season, where he has spent the last eight seasons. McKee has played in 487 ECHL games, where he has had 25 goals and 98 assists for 123 points with 902 penalty minutes and a +32. McKee served as an alternate captain of the Oilers in the 2020-21 season and captained the team in the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons.
Mike McKee is an old-school, physical defenseman willing to sacrifice his body for his team. McKee is physically hard on the puck, laying lots of hits and forcing turnovers, making it difficult for opposing teams to score when he is on the ice. He has also become one of the ECHL’s heavyweights for his ability and willingness to drop the gloves, whether it’s to stand up for his teammates or help his team gain momentum and energy.
