ECHL: Tulsa Oilers Re-Sign Forward Josh Nelson

The Tulsa Oilers have announced that they have re-signed forward Josh Nelson from Lockport, Illinois, for the 2024-25 ECHL season.

Junior and Collegiate Career

Josh Nelson started his collegiate career in the OHL with the London Knights in the 2016-17 season. In his four seasons with the Knights, Nelson played in 206 games, where he had 33 goals and 37 assists for 70 points. He had 30 penalty minutes and a plus/minus of -3. In the 2019-20 season, Nelson played 28 games for the Barrie Colts in the OHL, where he had 12 goals and ten assists for 22 points. He had two penalty minutes and a plus/minus of 0. Nelson played in the postseason with the London Knights in two seasons. In his 15 playoff games, he had two goals and one assist for three points. He had four penalty minutes and a plus/minus of -1.

After his junior career, Nelson went to St. Francis Xavier University for his collegiate career. In his four seasons at St. Francis Xavier, Nelson only played in three seasons as the 2020-21 season was canceled due to COVID. Nelson played in 87 games at St. Francis Xavier where he had 32 goals and 36 assists for 68 points. He had 32 penalty minutes and a plus/minus of -13. Nelson played in the postseason with St. Francis Xavier in all three seasons that games were played in. He played in 13 playoff games, where he had four goals and three assists for seven points. He had ten penalty minutes and a plus/minus of -5.

Professional Career

After completing his collegiate career, Nelson signed with the Tulsa Oilers in the ECHL to complete his 2023-24 season. He played in 16 games with the Oilers, where he had two goals and two assists for four points. He had two penalty minutes and a plus/minus of -7. Nelson played in four games with the Oilers in the playoffs, where he did not register any points or penalty minutes and had a plus/minus of -3.
