The Maine Mariners roster has shaken up a fair amount lately. Today it was announced that Maine’s ECHL All-Star of the year, defenseman Gabriel Chicoine, was being called up on loan to the Calgary Wranglers of the AHL. Chicoine has the most points for a defenseman on the Mariners, standing at 42 points. The next highest-scoring defenseman for the team is Ethan Ritchie with 13 points. It was also announced today that Ethan Ritchie is being recalled from his loan by the Providence Bruins of the AHL. There have been quite a few moves internally with the roster along with this, such as captain Connor Doherty returning to the lineup on Wednesday night after being out with a broken hand. Jimmy Lambert saw his return from injury on Wednesday night as well.
The Mariners have also announced that they have signed forward Tyler Vanuden. The 26-year-old Fort Frances, Ontario native most recently played for the Kalamazoo Wings, who the Mariners just faced on Wednesday for their first-ever match-up. However, the Wings released Vanuden that day, and he was not in the lineup for the game against Maine. Vanuden only played in four games for the Wings and had one assist. Prior to being with the Wings, Vanuden played in the SPHL. He started out this season with the Fayetteville Marksmen, where he played two games and had no points. He then played for the Quad City Storm for six games, where he had one goal and two assists. Vanuden is making his debut with the Mariners tonight when they face the Toledo Walleye in Ohio.
