Defenseman Ty Gibson is going from one Thunder to the other as he’s signed with Wichita Thunder for the 2025-26 season. Gibson, 22, is coming off his rookie season, where he put up nine assists in 59 games with the Adirondack Thunder. It was a tough rookie season for the young defenseman, who seemed to have trouble solidifying himself on Adirondack’s blueline. His last goal came on March 5th, 2024, as a member of the Everett Silvertips. Gibson is the fifth blueliner and 11th player to sign with Wichita heading into the 2025-26 season. Heading into next season, a fresh start should help Gibson, who should find himself on the third pairing in Wichita.
Prior to going pro, the Victoria, British Columbia, native spent parts of five seasons in the WHL primarily with the Everett Silvertips. In 187 games with the Silvertips, he would put up 10 goals and 46 assists for 56 points in 187 games. He would add two assists in 11 WHL playoff games with the Silvertips. Gibson was traded to the Regina Pats halfway through the 2023-24 season. He put up 15 assists in 28 games with the Pats. His best season came during the 2022-23 season. He put up six goals and 18 assists for 24 points in 66 games. Gibson would finish that season tied for second among SilverTips defenseman in goals.
In 2019, Gibson was selected to play for the U16 Team British Columbia in the 2019 Canada Winter Games. He had two goals and one assist in the three games during the tournament.
