The Utah Grizzlies have once again added to their coaching staff as they’ve hired Jack Skille as their new assistant coach and Director of Skill Development. This will be Skille’s first professional coaching gig. Skille joins head coach John Becanic and assistant coach Ryan Anderson on the Grizzlies bench heading into the 2025-26 season. This is a solid signing as Skille has some previous ties to the Colorado Avalanche.
Prior to coaching, Jack Skille played 10 years in the NHL after being drafted seventh overall by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2005 NHL Draft. He would spent time with the Blackhawks, Florida Panthers, Columbus Blue Jackets, Colorado Avalanche, and Vancouver Canucks. Skille would put up 43 goals and 41 assists for 84 points in 368 games. He also saw action in six Stanley Cup Playoff games in 2014 while a member of the Blue Jackets. Once his NHL career was over, Skille would spend four seasons playing overseas, spending a year in Russia, Switzerland, Germany, and Austria.
Skille’s College and Junior Career
The Madison, Wisconsin, native would play two years of college hockey at home with the University of Wisconsin. In his two seasons with the Badgers, he would put up 21 goals and 18 assists for 39 points in 67 games. He would win a national championship with the Badgers in 2006. Skille also found success at the Junior level, winning a Silver Medal in 2004 and a Gold Medal in 2005 at the U18 World Junior Championships. He would also win a Bronze Medal at the U20 World Junior Championship in 2007.
