The Utah Grizzlies have quickly assembled a coaching staff, as they announced John Becanic as the head coach on Friday. Today, they announced that Ryan Anderson will be joining the staff as an assistant coach. Anderson spent last season as an assistant coach with the Reading Royals. The Kingsford, Michigan native also spent parts of two seasons as the Norfolk Admirals Video Coach during the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons. Utah will be Anderson’s third ECHL over the course of his coaching career.

“Ryan has an eye for talent and his time in the Navy has a clear translation to professional hockey; not only in the way he carries himself, but his work ethic is second to none. Ryan will have a huge hand in the formation of our roster, as well in the way the team plays on the ice. Ryan has a bright future in coaching at the highest levels,” says Erik Hudson, Director of Hockey Operations.

After leaving the Admirals after the 2016-17 season, Ryan Anderson spent the next seven seasons in the NAHL and NA3HL in both a head coach and assistant coach capacity. In his first year as head coach at the NA3HL level, he led the Texas Jr. Brahmas to a regular-season championship, posting a 40-5-2 record. Anderson would ultimately be named the 2020 NA3HL Coach of the Year. He would spend the following season as the Brahmas Head Coach, leading them to another regular-season championship before making the jump to the NAHL as an Associate Head Coach with the Lone Star Brahmas, where he spent two seasons. In 2023, Anderson would secure his first head coaching gig in the NAHL, spending one season behind the bench of the Amarillo Wranglers before joining Reading last season.
