It was announced today that the Utah Grizzlies have signed another fan-favorite who returns to the team after spending most of last season with it. Aaron Aragon has signed with Utah as he returns for his second year in a Grizzlies uniform. Last season, Aragon played 59 games with Utah, racking up ten goals while grabbing six assists and earning a -6 rating.
Aragon brings his offensive talent to Utah, as well as his physical presence on the ice. The Left-Winger from Whittier, CA, started last season with the Idaho Steelheads, as he played four games, racking up five points (2G,3A) before getting traded. He also played six games with the Savannah Ghost Pirates in the 22-23 season, grabbing two assists. In his collegiate days, Aragon played at the D3 level with the University of New England, where he scored 23 goals and 16 assists for 39 points in 75 games played. He played in 2018-2022, winning two CCC championships in 2018-19 and 2021-22.
It was also announced on Monday that the Grizzlies have brought back Mick Messner for his third season in the Beehive State. Messner was an Iron Man last season, playing in all 72 games for Utah. Throughout last season, Messner was a fan-favorite who brought his talent day in and day out, as he scored 15 goals while adding 23 assists for 38 points. In his first season with Utah in the latter part of the 22-23 season, the Wisconsin native appeared in six games with Utah, posting a +1 rating.
Prior to his time in Utah, Messner played five years of college hockey, with his first two years being at the University of Wisconsin and his other three being played at Merrimack College. During his college days from 2018-2023, Messner played in 130 games, scoring just 14 goals while adding 17 assists. Last season was definitely a fun one for Messner, who was able to have a great full first year in Utah. If he continues what he did last season, he will be a key aspect of the Utah Grizzlies chase to the playoffs.
