ECHL: Utah Grizzlies Sign John Gelatt

The Utah Grizzlies have announced that they have signed 5’11” forward John Gelatt for the 2025-26 season. He is the eighth forward and 15th player signed to a deal with Utah for the 2025-26 season. The 2025-26 season will be Gelatt’s first season of professional hockey.

Junior and Collegiate Career

John Gelatt only spent one season playing juniors, where he played in the NAHL with the Johnstown Tomahawks. In 51 games with the Tomahawks, he had 24 goals and 30 assists for 54 points. He had one goal and one assist with six penalty minutes in five playoff games.

After his junior career, Gelatt started his collegiate career playing four seasons of Division I hockey at Holy Cross College. In his four seasons at Holy Cross, Gelatt played in 149 games, registering 15 goals and 30 assists for 45 points. Last season with the Crusaders, Gelatt played in 37 games, where he had seven goals and ten assists for 17 points, helping the Crusaders win the AHA Regular Season. Gelatt was an alternate captain for the Crusaders in his senior season.

“I’m super excited to come to Utah. I have heard great things about the organization. I can’t wait to get out there and get things started. Go Grizz” says Gelatt.

Gelatt is a very skilled forward who can read the ice well. He has a lot of speed that allows him to get up and down the ice, and his smaller size allows him to get around other players. Gelatt’s defensive game is also pretty good, and he saw a lot of improvements at Holy Cross in the 2024-25 season. Gelatt is able to force turnovers really well, allowing him and his teammates to get odd-man rushes up the ice.
