The Wheeling Nailers have announced that they’ve signed rookie forward Tyler Paquette for the 2025-26 season. Paquette,24, had three goals and five assists for eight points in 38 games during his final season of eligibility at Penn State. He becomes the third signing and first newcomer to Wheeling’s 2025-26 lineup. I would expect Paquette to start the second and be a bottom-six player for the Nailers. It will be interesting to see if Wheeling decides to use him as a center or a wing, as he can play both positions.
Tyler Paquette began his career in the USHL with the Des Moines Buccaneers, spending two seasons with the team. In 101 games with the Buccaneers, he would put up nine goals and 12 assists for 21 points. During his final season in the NAHL with the Gamblers, he would put up 11 goals and 12 assists for 23 points in 46 games. Paquette had one goal in four games during the 2019 playoffs.
The Collegeville, PA, native would then take his talents to the NCAA, joining the Penn State Nittany Lions. In his five years at Penn State, he would put up 27 goals and 21 assists for 48 points in 143 games. In his first full season with the Nitney Lions, he would put up 11 goals and finish the year with 15 points. He would pick up 15 points the following season as well. Paquette would be part of two National Tournament runs with the Lions, including their latest one last season, which saw them advance to the Frozen Four.
