
The Wheeling Nailers have announced that they’ve signed forward Tyler Burnie for the 2025-26 season. Burnie, 26, began his pro career last season with the Rapid City Rush, putting up five goals and eight assists for 13 points in 51 games before being traded to the Allen Americans. In 14 games with the Americans, he had two goals and four assists for six points. He was traded again, this time out East to the Orlando Solar Bears, during the Future Trade Considerations Deadline. Burnie is the seventh forward and ninth player to sign with the Nailers for the 2025-26 season. He had previously spent four seasons playing alongside Cole Tymkin in USports and the GOJHL.
Junior and USports Career
Prior to going pro, the Midhurst, Ontario, native began his junior career in the OJHL with Wellington Dukes, where he put up 16 goals and 17 assists for 33 points in 50 games. He would add a goal and four assists for five points in five OJHL playoff games with the Dukes. The majority of his junior career came in the OHL with the Kingston Frontenacs. In 167 games with the Frontenacs, he would put up 28 goals and 34 assists for 62 points. He would put up four assists in 27 OHL playoff games. Burnie would finish his junior career in the GOJHL with the Caledonia Corvairs, where he had 34 goals and 39 assists for 73 points in 37 games.
Once he finished his junior career, Burnie would play three seasons in USports with Brock University. In 62 games with the Badgers, he would put up 28 goals and 35 assists for 63 points. In his final season with the Badgers, he would finish second on the team in points (33). Burnie was also named to the OUA West All-Star Team in 2024. He would add three goals and six assists for nine points in 16 USports Playoff games, and played in two games in the University Cup.
