The Pittsburgh Penguins’ organization announced today goaltender Sergei Murashov and defenseman Mats Lindgren have both been assigned to the Wheeling Nailers from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. The news of Murashov being sent down comes after the Penguins loaned Tristan Jarry to their AHL farm team for a conditioning stint.
Murashov – The 2022 fourth-round draft pick of the Penguins made his AHL debut back on Oct. 13 against the Springfield Thunderbirds. In the Penguins’ 4-1 win over the Thunderbirds, Murashov made 27 saves for a 1.00 goals against average (GAA) and .964 save percentage (SV%). Prior to coming over to North America, he has spent the last few years making a big name for himself in his home country of Russia. Between the 2022-23 and 23-24 seasons, Murashov has seen seven games in the KHL with the Lokomotiv Yaroslavl as an 18- and 19-year-old. Through those games, he posted a 4-1-2 record with a 1.71 GAA and a .928 SV%. In four seasons of junior hockey in the MHL, Murashov posted a 73-30-12 record while holding a 2.04 GAA, .934 SV%, and 22 shutouts.
Lindgren – Lindgren is a former fourth-round pick of the Buffalo Sabres in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. He made his AHL debut in a 3-0 win over the Lehigh Valley Phantoms on Oct. 19 registering no points. The 20-year-old spent most of his junior hockey career in the WHL between the Kamloops Blazers and Red Deer Rebels. In three seasons with the Blazers, he played 111 games between the regular season and playoffs, tallying six goals and 55 assists with an stellar +34 goal differential rating. He played his final two seasons with the Rebels and was named as an assistant captain in his final season. In 147 games, he notched 21 goals and 68 assists. His +/- dropped as he was just a +7.
The Nailers are in Reading, PA this weekend as they continue their road trip. Puck drop against the Reading Royals for tonight (Oct. 26) is scheduled for 7 p.m., with a 3 p.m. puck drop on Sunday (Oct. 27).
