The Wichita Thunder continue to add players to their roster as the team announced the signing of rookie defenseman Lleyton Moore for the 2023-24 season.
Moore played the last four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League, playing for the Niagara IceDogs, Oshawa Generals, and Kitchener Rangers. The 21-year-old native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, racked up a total of 21 goals and 122 assists for 143 points in 226 games in the OHL.
In his last OHL season, Moore was named captain of the Oshawa Generals, scoring four goals and 20 assists in 27 games before being traded to the Kitchener Rangers in exchange for forward Joseph Serpa and several picks in the next two OHL Priority Selection draft. Following the trade, Moore put up the exact same stat line of four goals and 20 assists.
The defenseman also was a part of Team Canada for the 2018-19 U-17 World Junior Challenge, appearing in five games alongside NHL prospects Jake Neighbours, Sebastian Cossa, Luke Evangelista, and Luke Prokop.
Elite Prospects’ scouting report on the blueliner in 2020 highlighted Moore’s decision-making ability and footspeed as his strengths. “Despite his size, Moore brings physicality and seals off bigger attackers without much issue,” the report said.
With under 90 days until the beginning of the ECHL season, the signing of Moore helps fill one spot on the roster as the Wichita Thunder still have a few more signings to make.
