The Wichita Thunder have announced that they have signed 5’11” forward Anton Rubtsov for the 2025-26 season.
Junior and Collegiate Career
Anton Rubtsov spent his junior career playing in the NAHL. In his three NAHL seasons, Rubtsov played with the Lone Star Brahmas and Shreveport Mudbugs. In 95 games, Rubtsov registered 17 goals and 30 assists for 47 points with 24 penalty minutes and a +1. He had two goals and one assist with four penalty minutes and a -5 in ten playoff games.
Rubtsov then started his collegiate career playing Division I hockey at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks. He spent all five of his collegiate seasons playing for the Nanooks, although he did not play in any games in the 2020-21 season as Fairbanks decided to not play the 2020-21 season due to COVID. In 100 games with the Nanooks, Rubtsov registered 25 goals and 42 assists for 67 points with 60 penalty minutes and a +24.
Anton Rubtsov is a forward that can provide a lot of offense for his team. He has a lot of speed, allowing him to get up and down the ice. Rubtsov also has a major net front presence as he is able to get to the front of the net a lot and is able to hold the puck just long enough to get the goaltender out of position. Rubtsov will be entering his first professional season, so it may take some time for him to settle in. But once he finds his game in the ECHL, he could find a lot of success on offense.
