ECHL: Wichita Thunder Signs Rookie Forward; Re-Signs Dockery

On Monday, July 22, the Wichita Thunder announced that they have re-signed Dominic Dockery for his third season and signed rookie forward Carter Jones.

Dominic Dockery joined the Wichita Thunder for the 2022-2023 season. During his first season, Dockery played 71 games, finishing the season with 10 points (2 goals, 8 assists). Looking at the 2023-2024 season, he played 65 games and had nine assists. He also was a recipient of the 2023-2024 Best Defensive Defenseman Award. This award is voted on by PHPA members at the end of each season, and it is given to one defenseman from the AHL and the ECHL Eastern and Western Conferences. Recipients of this award have offensive statistics that typically do not represent the significance of their defensive contributions to the team.

Before joining the Thunder, Dockery played for the Wheeling Nailers and the Indy Fuel during the 2021-2022 season. With the Nailers, Dockery had five assists in 29 games, and he had one assist in three games with the Indy Fuel.

Before playing professionally, Dominic Dockery played for Merrimack College from 2017-2021. He played in 108 games for Merrimack, scoring 19 points (3 goals, 16 assists). Dockery also briefly played for the University of Maine during 2021-2022, and he finished his career there with one assist over 17 games.

Carter Jones played for the Norfolk Admirals late last season, playing in three games. Before going pro, Jones attended Bemidji State University. He played for the Beavers for five years, playing in a total of 128 games. He finished his collegiate hockey career with 46 points (11 goals, 35 assists).

The Wichita Thunder will begin the 2024-2025 season facing off against the Kansas City Mavericks at home on October 18.
