The Savannah Ghost Pirates have announced that defenseman Will Riedell will be seeking opportunities overseas to further his hockey career. Hailing from Greensboro, NC, the future home of the Gargoyles, Riedell currently ranks sixth in points for the Ghost Pirates this season. The 28-year-old defenseman played collegiately at Lake Superior State University and Ohio State University, where he tallied 61 points, including 20 goals. After his NCAA career, Riedell spent time between the AHL and the ECHL, making his professional debut with the AHL’s Lehigh Valley Phantoms in the 2021-2022 season.

Riedell has played 93 ECHL games in his professional career, posting a total of 49 points with 15 goals and 34 assists. This season with Savannah, he has been a key player, contributing 8 goals and 20 assists, which totals 28 points through 46 games. The 2024-2025 season marks his second stint with the Ghost Pirates. His first stint was in the 2022-2023 season, where he played 15 games and tallied four assists.

In the 2023-2024 season, Riedell split his time between the AHL’s Calgary Wranglers and the ECHL’s Rapid City Rush. During that season, he managed to score eight goals and provide 14 assists, totaling 24 points across both levels. His consistent performance has made him a valuable asset to any team he has played for, and his departure will certainly be felt by the Ghost Pirates.

This is the second move the Savannah Ghost Pirates made today, the other involving Nathan Staios which can be read about here: ECHL: Nathan Staios Heading Overseas | Inside The Rink.

The Ghost Pirates currently sit at 10th in the Eastern Conference and will look to improve on that in the coming weeks.
