William Rousseau of the Iowa Heartlanders has been named as the Warrior Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Month. Notably, Rousseau is the first goaltender in Iowa Heartlanders’ history to have received this award.
Throughout December, Rousseau maintained a perfect 5-0-0 record, including two shutouts. He posted an impressive 1.19 goals-against average and a .961 save percentage over five games. Rousseau consistently limited opponents to two goals or fewer in each of his appearances, making 29 or more saves in every game. He achieved his first professional shutout with 30 saves in a 5-0 win against the Bloomington Bison on December 1st and recorded a season-high 41 saves in a 2-0 victory over the Toledo Walleye on December 11th. Rousseau also had the opportunity to play for the Iowa Wild in the matchup against the San Jose Barracuda where he stopped 19 of 22 shots.
William Rousseau’s performance has shown significant growth over time. He began his career in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) with the Quebec Remparts and Rouyn-Noranda Huskies. During his time in the QMJHL, he consistently improved, culminating in a standout 2023-24 season where he posted a 2.24 goals-against average (GAA) and a .924 save percentage. Rousseau led the QMJHL in goals-against average for two consecutive seasons and was named the CHL Goaltender of the Year. He also won the Memorial Cup with the Quebec Remparts, where he was recognized as the most outstanding goaltender of the tournament.
After joining the Iowa Heartlanders in the ECHL, Rousseau continued to excel. In his first professional season, he currently ranks fourth in the ECHL with a 2.15 goals-against average and sixth with a .929 save percentage. Rousseau now has a 7-2-2 record in 11 games this season with the Heartlanders.
Prior to his joining the Iowa Heartlanders, he participated in the Minnesota Wild Development Camp in July 2024.
