21-year-old Artyom Kulakov, defenseman for the Worcester Railers, was suspended Thursday for one game and fined an undisclosed amount as punishment for a hit he delivered against Florida Everblades forward Mark Senden during Wednesday night’s game in Estero, Fla. The ECHL cited Rule #28- Supplementary Discipline for Kulakov’s unpenalized boarding hit on Senden late in the second period. The hit on Senden happened at 19:25, just over a minute after the Everblades had retaken the lead on a goal by Joe Pendenza (16). Senden remained on the ice for a few minutes, but he was able to return to the game in the third period.
Kulakov will miss game two of the three-game series against the Everblades. Kulakov made his professional debut in late March last year with the Worcester Railers, playing in seven games. He has played 42 games for the Railers this season, recording three goals, five assists, eight points, and 47 penalty minutes. He is second on the team in penalty minutes this season.
The Worcester Railers’ next game is against the Florida Everblades on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Hertz Arena in Estero, Fla.
