The Worcester Railers have officially named there three captains for the 2024-25 season. Those three are strong pieces to the organization in the names of Anthony Repaci, Connor Welsh and Colin Jacobs. The team could not be more thrilled for these guys.
Anthony Repaci will be the first returning captain in franchise history. He missed most of last season with an injury so he looks to right the ship. Repaci’s tenure in Worcester only seems to be building. Repaci is the all-time leading goal scorer for the Railers. He has 65 goals to start the new campaign. He passed Barry Almeida’s record of 61 goals during the Railers’ IceCats specialty Night last year in front of a sold-out crowd of 7,094. He is second all-time in games played for the Railers with 162 games played, behind Almeida’s 192. Repaci holds the franchise record for career power play goals, with 16. He was chosen as the sixth captain in Railers history last season. Beyond his on-ice achievements, Repaci was chosen as the Railers’ Community Service Player of the Year. His good-hearted nature played a key role in the team receiving its fifth ECHL Community Service Team of the Year award for last season. He was also voted the “Fan Favorite” by the Worcester Railers Booster Club for three consecutive seasons, sharing the 2023-24 honor with former goaltender Henrik Tikkanen.
Colin Jacobs is in his 12th professional season. He appeared in 436 professional games across the American Hockey League, ECHL, and European leagues. He joined the Allen Americans in 2023 after playing in Germany. During his time with Allen, he put up 15 points (7 goals, 8 assists) and had 65 penalty minutes in 39 games. He also scored two goals in Allen’s first-round series of the Kelly Cup Playoffs against the Idaho Steelheads. In his 275 career ECHL games, Jacobs has tallied 118 points (49 goals, 69 assists) alongside 479 penalty minutes.
Connor Welsh is in his third professional season with the Railers. He was chosen as an alternate captain to finish out the 2023-24 campaign. In his first season with the Railers, the defenseman led the team in games played (70), ranked second among defensemen in points (29), and placed fourth in special teams points (11), with eight coming on the power play (2 goals, 6 assists) and three shorthanded (0 goals, 3 assists). He also ranked third among all ECHL defensemen in shorthanded assists (3). Welsh was originally acquired by Worcester in a trade announced last season, from the Trois-Rivières Lions in exchange for cash considerations.
