The Worcester Railers have named three new assistant captains after Jake Schultz and Blade Jennings were both named assistants when the Railers named Anthony Repaci as their captain prior to the season beginning. Connor Welsh, Trevor Cosgrove, and Jack Quinlivan were named the three new assistants prior to the Railer’s practice.
Quinlivan, who played in just 12 games last season, put up two goals and one assist in 10 games last season before suffering a concussion and while recovering, a member of the Railer’s medical staff realized something didn’t look right, and upon further evaluation, it was discovered that he had Thyroid Cancer and had surgery to remove his thyroid as 30 cancerous nodes on either side of his neck. He has four goals and three assists in 21 games after returning to the ice this season.
Welsh is in his third season in the ECHL after joining the Trois-Rivieres Lions after finishing his collegiate career at Dalhousie University. The Nova Scotia native has four goals and 17 assists for 21 points in 50 games so far with the Railers this season. The 26-year-old defenceman has seven goals and 36 assists for 43 points in 124 career ECHL games.
Cosgrove has spent his entire ECHL career with the Railers, putting up 11 goals and 37 assists for 48 points in 78 career games. This season he has six goals and 21 assists for 27 points in 38 games. He also as added a goal in five games up in the AHL with the Bridgeport Islanders.
