ECHL: Worcester Railers Playoff Chances

It is almost Kelly Cup Playoff time. The one question on Worcester Railers fans minds is will the team obtain a late season stretch to qualify for the playoffs. With only the top four teams in each division based on points qualifying for the playoffs time is running out for the Worcester Railers to make a push. With the team only scoring one goal in the past four games, much more is needed to spark enough offense to win more games.

Right now, the Worcester Railers sit tied with two other teams at 57 points. The teams they are tied with are the Trois-Rivieres Lions as well as the Reading Royals. Luckily for the Railers they face off against the Reading Royals on the road March 23rd and March 24th. The Railers have fallen in four out of the seven games against the Royals this season. Something needs to change for the Railers to come out on the winning side in this very important two-game set that could determine whether they may make the playoffs or not.

The Railers next game is in Glenn Falls, New York, where they face off against the Adirondack Thunder, where they fell short 5-1 the last time out. This is the first step to turn around this skid they have been on lately. On the offensive side of the puck, the Railers should look to forward Blade Jenkins. He has accumulated the most points on the team, with 45 total points. He put 20 in the back of the net while dishing out 25 assists. (20-25-45) He leads the team with an average of 0.98 points per game. Jenkins was loaned from the Hartford Wolfpack of the AHL over to the Worcester Railers which is a welcomed addition. The first roadblock for the Railers will be a challenging one as the Thunder sit in first place, accumulating 80 points, which is a large 23 more than the Railers have.

The Railers know what they need to do to make the playoffs. They plan to come together to bring a chance at a championship to Worcester and their fans.
