The Worcester Railers have signed forward Austin Heidemann for the 2024-25 season to bolster the roster. This will be Austin Heidemann’s first full rookie season as a 25-year-old. Heidemann joined the team at the end of the 2023-24 season from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He only played seven games for the squad, scoring one goal and racking up two penalty minutes. After transferring from Mercyhurst University, he played his final two seasons at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. In 125 games at the collegiate level and four seasons, Heidemann scored 40 goals and 46 assists for 86 points. In his senior season at RPI, he led the team in scoring with 27 points and with 16 goals and 11 assists, respectively.
Like most ECHL professionals, he spent two years prior to collegiate hockey playing in the United States Hockey League. He played with the Sioux City Musketeers, Sioux Falls Stampede, and Green Bay Gamblers. In 96 USHL games from 2018-2020, he scored 23 goals and 15 assists. He also totaled 44 penalty minutes.
“It’s like a family there,” Heidemann said. “It was a no-brainer to want to re-sign… Going into the season, I’d like to play a big role for the team. I think it’s something I’m very capable of and I’ve been preparing to do all summer.”

Most of the Railers’ moves this offseason have involved acquiring and keeping young guys. Austin Heidemann is no different. The Team has a good mix of veteran and young talent. The Railers have the correct pieces to bring a championship back to Worcester for the first time, and all they need is to put them in the correct order.
