The beat rolls on for the Worcester Railers with their successful offseason as they’ve re-signed their star defenseman Connor Welsh. The organization could not have drawn out this off-season better; Welsh was a staple on defense for the club last season. He is the fourth signing for the Railers and the first defenseman signed to a contract for the 2024-25 season.
Connor Welsh is entering his third professional season. In his first season with the Worcester Railers, he was first on the team in games played (70). He was also second on the team in total points with 29. An impressive stat that he earned was being fourth on the team in special teams points with 11. He had two power-play goals and six power-play assists for a total of eight power-play points. In addition, he had three shorthanded assists. Those assists put him third among ECHL defensemen in shorthanded assists.
Welsh joined the team towards the end of the 2023 offseason in a trade with the Trois-Rivieres Lions in exchange for cash. His time with the Lions was relatively short-lived, as he played in only 74 games for the Lions, putting up three goals and 19 assists for 22 points. Let’s just say Worcester is lucky to have star defenseman Connor Welsh. The 26-year-old defenseman played collegiately at Dalhousie University from 2018-2022. Prior to that, he played two seasons in the British Colombia Hockey League, where he put up 17 goals and 38 assists for 55 points In 113 games.
