The Worcester Railers have re-signed Mason Klee to bolster their lineup. In Mason Klee’s short time with the Railers last season, he became a fan favorite, catching many eyes. He’s a defenseman separating himself from the recent trend of the Worcester Railers signing forwards.
Klee has not always been an ECHL professional, as he signed with the San Jose Barracuda of the American Hockey League on an amateur tryout. He played six games with the Barracuda, putting up one goal. Klee originally joined the team in Worcester from Ohio State University. He only spent his final year of collegiate hockey there, as he spent the prior four years with the RPI Engineers. In his collegiate career he earned 21 total points with five goals and 16 assists which are not standout numbers, however he is a defensemen.
“I’m super excited,” Klee said. “The group of guys we had there last year was great and made me feel welcome right away. The coaching staff was awesome, the fans were really supportive, and it’s a great city. I look forward to trying to bring a championship back to Worcester.”
-Klee on re-signing with the Railers
Before making his collegiate debut, Klee played in the United States Hockey League. He played for the Lincoln Stars and Sioux Falls Stampede. For the 2018-19 season, Mason Klee won the Clark Cup championship with Sioux Falls. He played 118 USHL games, putting up 17 points on four goals and 13 assists.
A cool bit of background for the Railer’s defenseman, Mason Klee, is that he is Ken Klee’s son. Ken Klee played over 900 career games at the NHL level. Aside from his NHL status, he was the head coach of the PWHL Minnesota for the inaugural PWHL champions.
